5 Benefits Of Installing A Window Film

A window film is a thin sheet of polyester. It has optical grade coating. This type of sheet is installed on the glass of a door or window. There are many benefits of using such a film. Save Energy A highly reflective window film is designed to reflect outdoor heat. It helps save energy by reducing air conditioning bills. The air conditioner operates efficiently when less heat enters the indoor area. The film can reduce incoming heat by more than 80%. This strong barrier is effective even during the winter months. The indoor heat does not come in contact with the outdoor environment. It results in efficient heating and cooling. Reduced Glare Window tinting film offers high level of protection from UV rays. It protects expensive furnishings, draperies and other colourful items from fading. In fact, there is no need to use window coverings when such films are used on window glasses. Only the required amount of light enters the room while the glare, UV rays and heat are blocked completely. Residents find the indoor area open and airy. There is no need to use artificial lighting during the daytime. People are more productive when they work under the natural daylight. The room has a comfortable environment when there are no claustrophobic window coverings. Visual Impact Window films are not limited to heat reflective and anti glare films. Now there is a wide range of designer glass films for various applications. Such stylish films are mainly used in commercial stores. The films used for such purposes have unique printed or frosted designs. The stylish look helps increase footfall in the store. Hide Outdoor/Indoor View Partially or Completely Window films can be used to block lower, [...]

Tackling The Threat of Fade – The Window Film Way

Do you run a shop which places some of its stock in your front windows? Do you have treasured furniture or possessions which are in direct sunlight at any point? If you answer yes to either of these questions, you are running the risk of sun damage due to prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultra violet light. What Causes Fabrics To Fade? It is all about the chemical makeup of an object. The technical term for colour fading is photo degradation. There are light absorbing colour bodies called chromophores that are present in dyes. The colour(s) we see are based upon these chemical bonds and the amount of light that is absorbed in a particular wavelength. Ultraviolet rays from the sun have the ability to break down the chemical bonds and thus fade the colour(s) in an object - it is a bleaching effect. Some objects may be more prone to fading, such as dyed textiles and watercolours. Other objects may reflect the light more, which makes them less prone to fade. For more on this - https://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/colors.html As you can see from the pie chart above, the causes of fading can be varied. Approximately 40% of fabric fading can be attributed to the UV lights from the sun. Heat and light contribute approximately 25% each with the remaining 10% caused by other factors including poor ventilation, poor quality dyes and the effects of artificial light. How Can We Help? WF Glazing Protection stock and sell a range of UV filter window films which have been designed specifically to help reduce the effects of fading. Our sun damage protection window film will help your businesses to: Maximise your window display without the fear of the [...]

5 Reasons Why You Should Install Window Film Into Your Home

With so many different ways to enhance your home, the most difficult choice for many people is deciding which option to go with first! However, we believe (we are a little biased though!) that window film offers one of the most effective methods of improving your home without having to spend a fortune to do so. Absolutely ideal for a variety of different uses, the installation of different varieties of window film can be used to improve privacy levels, reduce glare and even offer solar control properties. Best of all, this can all be done without sacrificing light levels or changing the aesthetics of your house too dramatically. If you are still a little unsure, please check out the following 5 reasons that we believe everyone should have window film installed into their home. No. 1 – It is a great alternative to curtains or blinds Whilst the installation of curtains or blinds are still the ‘old school’ choice for many, they can result in the increased need for cleaning within your home along with making the room seem a little smaller. However, the installation of window film can help to make a huge difference to your chosen rooms often resulting in them feeling both bigger and brighter. No. 2 – It offers increased privacy without reducing the light coming in Home privacy can be an issue for many people, especially during the dark winter nights where it can be all too easy for neighbours and passers-by to see into your home when the lights are on. Thankfully the application of specialist privacy window film can significantly reduce the ability of people to see into your property whilst not reducing the amount of light being [...]

The Rise & Rise of the Solar Window Film Market

The solar control window film market will nearly double in size in the next four years, according to a report by Lux Research Inc. The market will jump from its current value of $479 million to $863 million by 2018, experiencing a compound annual growth rate of 10 percent. Managing solar heat gain, light transmission, and glare has become a primary concern of manufacturers, as the use of architectural glass has grown globally, regulations have become stricter.   Source: Lux Research The report says, “compared to competing technologies like switchable glazings, aerogel glazings, and daylighting skylights, after-market solar control films offer a low-cost, short-payback-period technology that can address the much larger retrofit market,” which is why the market is expected to grow. You can read more on the report by visiting the Window Film Mag website by clicking here. Why The Increase in Popularity? Rising energy bills are the scourge of commercial and domestic property owners throughout the UK. With no sign of energy companies relenting and beginning to drop their prices, people have naturally begun to search for an effective alternative. Solar control window film offers a proven method of reducing cooling costs during the summer (assuming that you currently use air-conditioning to cool your building), and heating costs in winter. Insulating Qualities During winter months, inefficient windows can add significantly to heat loss and energy costs. Typically, the U-value of single glazing is 5.88 and 2.2-2.9 for non-coated double glazing. While replacing windows with the latest energy efficient glass will dramatically improve these U-values it can be a costly and problematic exercise with very long payback periods and little return on investment. Ecolux™ window film from SolarGard is the very latest technology combining a low-e [...]
